Jason Wu for Target Preview

 By: Stephanía Lara-Cuéllar

After the mass hysteria of the Missoni line, Target is now releasing a collection designed by up and comer Jason Wu.

Made famous by the first lady herself this collection embodies everything romantic, girly and chic perfect for Valentines day.

I have been a fan of Jason Wu every since I saw Beyonce serenading the Obama’s at the opening ceremony. Her dress was every part glamour and practicality into one.

This collaboration is exactly that: something for the girl who always manages to pull off sophisticated made up looks without looking uncomfortable.

The collection is mainly compromised of reds, blues, whites and blacks but has a few surprise pops of yellow and pink here an there. It has a plethora of dresses with a hint of retro (not enough to look like an extra from Mad Men). There are a selection of separates that include pleated skirts, chiffon shirts and a surprisingly girly pair of shorts.

The prices are a tad lower than what Target collaborations usually tend to be, worrying me that perhaps the material is even a step lower in terms of quality. We all know the history Target has with polyester. But because the line seems to significantly lack knits, it is perhaps mostly composed of cotton.

Jason Wu also added a presence of accessories. Mostly bags composed of prints and straw solids. The blue print with flowers has potential, though worn incorrectly and might end up like a bad vintage relic. Many of the bags come in Totes are available which to me only bring back memories of my early high school days. There is a selection of beautiful clutches with a detail that resembles a rose garden. Not to mention the beautiful scarves that have the cat mascot of the entire line.

I am drawn to the collection simply because it has all my favorite colors. It is extremely lady-like with a strong presence of French influence and perfect for the tea party I will always want to attend.
