Christian Dior Spring 2012 Couture show

 By: Chris Henry

The Christian Dior Spring 2012 Couture Show is best described as a collection straight off of their 1950’s catwalks. Showing many wearable dresses, skirts and jackets with some hints of nostalgia. Some garments might even show up on 60s housewife, Betty Draper in the upcoming season of Mad Men. Bill Gaytten who designed the collection, explained that the pieces showed “All the structure of iconic Dior, thanks to lots of fittings, but all of it see-through”. The material used is very feminine, featuring chiffon, organza and gauze, reminding us of the history of Dior. Some of the pieces featured were elbow length gloves and seemingly silk headscarves. Bustles, did appear towards the end of the show, which though not necessarily wearable, was still beautiful to watch glide across the runway. The show opener was none other than the freshest face in fashion, Karlie Kloss. Kloss recently appeared naked in Vogue Italia’s December issue, so wearing see-through material did not pose much of an issue to her apparently. As you can tell by the photos, these wearable posh-styled looks very much clash with the fantasy couture that Galliano so famously portrayed during his time at Dior. The main question is; how will the fashion critics and editors take to this new err rather old look of high-end Dior?
